7 Day Forecast
ST. LOUIS — The remnants of Hurricane Helene will bring rain to the region starting after midnight Thursday, according to local forecasters.
Rain will likely pick up during the day Friday, said Melissa Byrd, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in St. ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë, and could linger into Sunday.
Southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois are likely to see the highest rainfall of between 1 and 3 inches. The St. ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë metro area will see a little less — between 1 and 2 inches, Byrd said.
Forecasters don’t expect much flooding, but heavier rain is possible locally and could cause some minor flooding.
Friday will be windy with gusts between 30 and 45 mph.
Helene was barreling across the Gulf of Mexico toward Thursday. It was expected to make landfall Thursday evening as a major hurricane, Category 3 or higher.

Forecasters warned of a dangerous storm surge, damaging winds, rains and flash floods hundreds of miles inland across much of the southeastern United States.
The hurricane was moving pretty quickly, about 14 mph, as of Thursday morning, Byrd said.
An area of low pressure already hanging out over the St. ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë region will absorb the moisture from Helene and cause the rain.
