Upstream Theater is turning 20 and celebrating with a season full of international dramas including 鈥淧ictures from a Revolution鈥 in January and 鈥淢eet Me at Dawn鈥 in April. But first up is 鈥淟ife Is a Dream,鈥 a Spanish classic from Pedro Calder贸n de la Barca. Prince Segismundo is pondering the nature of existence, and for good reason. The recently freed royal has been imprisoned since birth due to a prophecy and is now learning to navigate the treacherous world of the court. Artistic director Philip Boehm directs. You have to book a night鈥檚 stay at the lodge to participate in this event, which looks back at the park鈥檚 history 鈥 Native Americans, French explorers, Civil War soldiers and the settlers鈥 cemetery on the park grounds. This Halloween party will be full of activities for the kids, including trick-or-treating, of course, along with face painting, balloon animals, crafts, games, ghost stories, puppet shows (featuring Lewis and Clark) and a free ticket for all children for a riverfront cruise anytime during the 2025 season. Mary Meachum was a free Black abolitionist who was caught trying to lead a group of runaway slaves across the Mississippi River to freedom in 1855. Now, the band is focusing on their hits and bringing over 30 years of rock music to the Family Arena with opening sets from Nothing More and Flat Black. Jelly Roll is setting a new standard for modern country singers, both as musicians and as role models. The artist is open and transparent about his past struggles with crime and drugs and constantly goes out of his way to remind his fans that they matter. Earlier this year, Jelly Roll helped fund a music studio for a detention center in Nashville, his hometown. In July, he paused mid-performance to promise a fan that he would help pay her college tuition after seeing her sign in the crowd asking for help. Jelly Roll鈥檚 list of good deeds seems endless along with his discography of heartwarming, honest songs that catapulted him to stardom.
